Snow Fight

Snow Fight!
My holidays ended up being spectacular!  My family and I were in Ohakune, near the famous township of Taupo.  We were going up the freezing Mountain Ruapehu.  Actually we weren't, we were going to the bottom of the mountain.  Boring right? I know!  I was buckled up in my seatbelt.  The roads were extremely dangerous, first of all there weren't many safety rails on the side of the road, so that was dangerous and second of all the roads were pretty steep.  I didn't even want to look down!  After minutes of awkward silence, we were finally there.  I quickly took my gloves and scarf, then I ran like a wild animal to the snow.  But I slipped and landed headfirst in the snow!"Ouch!" I whimpered.  When I stood up something hit me.  I turned around and then it hit me again, smack in the face!  Before the sneak could strike again, as quick as a flash I made a snowball and threw it at... my brother!  I should have known it was him! "This means war!" I growled to myself.  But before the war could start, dad spoke up. "You do know this is fake snow right?" "Oh yeah! Sure I do, totally! I lied. My brother and I went back to our war. As fast as I possibly could, I made a couple of snowballs, then I fired them at my brother. Yay! I hit the target!  He threw more at me than I did at him!  Before our war got out of hand, mum said it was time to go.  I quicky made another snowball and threw it at my brother as my mum's back was turned.  He gave me an angry look.  I didn't care I just walked to the car.  Dad was driving really slow and in my mind I was thinking "Could dad get a ticket for driving this slow?"  But the road was dangerous so it was for the best.  After what seemed like ages we arrived at our chalet.  I loved the snow and the mountain.  Maybe next time it will actually snow so we might go skiing or snow boarding as well! Now that would be COOL!

Time For Touch

It was nearly time, nearly time to meet my team. I was thrilled to be back at touch because I love touch. I was at Lloyd Elsmore Park waiting for my team, but I couldn't see anyone wearing the same uniform as me. Then I saw someone walking towards me. " Are you in Bears Gold?" she asked me.
" Yes." I answered.
"Come to the cafe so you can meet one of your team mates." She said.
"Hi, I'm Anya." The girl introduced herself.
"I'm Paris." I answered her. Then a man with a pearl white shirt and a silver whistle strolled into the cafe. Inoticed he was looking for Anya and I. The lady told us that he was our co-coach and referee. The man took us to where the rest of the team was practicing. He said sorry for being so late. Anya and I then introduced ourselves. The whole team introduced themselves.
"Hi Paris and Anya, I'm Phil, your coachand this is Chloe, Ruby, Carla, Amitee and Talia. They are your team mates this season. Now lets do some practice." Phil explained. We did some passes and sprints. In 5 minutes we were ready to face the Wiki Workz. The horn went and it was our turn on the hockey turf. I ran onto the field in my place which was wing. Our referee blew the whistle and we were off. We played defence first." Touch!" my team mate yelled. We back pedalled to the referee which is running backwards. " Touch!" another one of my team mates yelled. We back pedalled again. The Wiki Workz ran to the tryline while I was running full speed. She scored a try while I was still running like a speeding train. Then it happened. . .
I tried to stop myself but I couldn't come to a complete stop. I skidded on the hockey turf grazing my knee and making it bleed. When I stopped skidding everyone started asking " Are you alright ? Are you okay?" All the questions with the same answer; "Yes, I'm fine." We played on. Chloe came on as a sub for me. I had a quick drink of water before I went back to play. The horn went for halftime. We went back to our coach so he could have a talk to us about the game. He told us we were doing well for our first game together and that it doesn't matter if we win as long as we have fun. We went back onto the field ready for the Wiki Workz for a second time. Our team kept passing the ball around so we couldn't get touched. Finally! We got a try. This was because we worked together as a team. Our game was nearly over, but not before they scored the last try. When the game was over we all said thank you to the referee and shook hands with the Wiki Workz. We all had a drink of water before my mum/ the manager told us who got player of the day. Phil said that we had lost but I had lots of fun. When we all made huddle my mum told Phil who should get player of the day. Phil agreed with what my mum thought. We did a drum roll while Carla kept saying "Its you Talia, its you." and Talia answered " Its gonna be you Carla" and guess who was right. . .
Talia!
Even though it was Carla's first time playing I thought she was really good because she kept reminding us to work together.

Thames

                                                                   A Weekend At Thames

On Saturday 21st of April 2012, me and my sister Fran went to Thames to stay at my aunty's house. Before we wnet to my aunty's house, we had to meet her at my other aunty's house. It took us about 25 minutes for us to get there. While we were driving to my aunty's house in Hillborough, I was watching a movie called "Ratatouille"to entertain myself while we were heading there, and it wasn't too long to drive there. Once we were at my aunty's to meet my other, we came inside and had a snack and a drink. It took about 15 minutes for my aunty to realise that we had to go to Hillsborough to Thames. So once we finished our drinks and sancks, we said our goodbyes we took off. While we were in the car, I was still watching Ratatouille. It took us about 2 hours to get there. We had to make a few stop's on the way. It was 7:30 by the time we were there. We took our bags upstairs into the lounge and watched Destroyed in Seconds, a bit of Terra Nova and American Idol. For dinner we had Fish'n'Chips and some Pepsi. In our pepsi's we ahd flashing ice cubes that turned red. After dinner we had Peanut Slabs and they were yummy. After all that food, we watched Around The World In 80 Days. When the movie was finished, we went to bed in my cousins room. He had a bunk bed. Fran got the top and I got the bottom. The next day, we were up ans started packing boxes. I found a box with bunch of old Superhero Comics. There were G.I. Comics, Spider-Man Comics, X-Men Comics, Fantastic Four Comics, Wolverine Comics, Cable Comics and The Incredible Hulk Comics. So I opened the box up and I grabbed a bunch of comics, ran upstairs and put them in my bag. After going through more comics we went upstairs and started packing books and her shelf. It was like and emporium of books. She had Rolling Stone Mags, books and more books, DVD's and CD's. We had about 6 or 7  boxes fulled with books. When we finished packing the last box, we had lunch. We all had frozen Hawaiin Pizza. While we were having having lunch at, my auntie's friend came over for a cup of tea and a biscut. Her and my aunty were having a chat while me, Fran, my other auty and my uncle were stuffing our faces with pizza. After several minutes of eating pizza, we were back at packing more boxes. We went through stuff that she didn't need. We went through some old clothes and she said that if we see something we like, we could have it. I didn't know she just meant clothes, because I went into my cousin's room and asked if I could have his drum set. We spent about 2 hours in her garage and then it was about 6 or 7pm by the time we finished. We went upstairs and got our bags and other stuff. We came into the lounge and said goodbye to ur aunty. She walked us outside and we got into our Uncle's car and we left Thames. The End.

Slam!  The axe hit the trunks of the trees.  The whole land turned pitch black.  In one of the trunks a furry character called the Lorax was sound asleep.  The Lorax asked who chopped down the tree down.  It was Ted that chopped down the trees.  But  he didn’t want the Lorax to nnow this. When the Lorax was not looking Ted dropped his axe on the bears head. He wanted the Lorax to think that the bear had cut down the trees, when it really was Ted that cut down the trees for himself.  He wanted to plant them in his back yard.  The trees grew and he used the wood to make the roof for his house.

Pakuranga to Whangamata.

"Are you all ready?" my Mum asked me before we left."Yes" I answered. We were going to Whangamata for a night. We were going to stay at my cousins's bach."I'm bored" my brother moaned on the way there."Are we there yet?"I asked."No" my mum growled. When we got there we took everything out of the car and put them away. Then our cousins Emily, Olivia and Sam showed us our bedrooms. The girls slept in the 'Sleepout'. There was a bunkbed in the 'Sleepout'. I slept in the top bunk. When we had finished making our beds we got our shoes on and walked down to the beach. It was HOT! When we got to the beach we walked into the water and then 'SPLASH!!' All I heard was a scream from Emily because her dress got soaked from a huge wave. "Ha!Ha!Ha!" Uncle Grant started laughing. 'SPLASH!!' Then we all got wet. "Okay time to go now!" Uncle Grant shouted. When we got home we quickly got changed so we could go and say hi to my cousins friend. When I had finished getting changed we went to the living room. When we got there I saw Ethan, Bailey, Tony and Tanya. They were Emily's friend's family. "Lets play hide and-" Olivia cut short."Mmm, what's that yummy smell?" asked Sam licking his lips."FOOD!!!" shouted Emily as if she hadn't been fed in weeks. "It's the barbeque."anwered Olivia. We walked over to the barbeque and saw steak, sausages, chicken and lamb being cooked on the barbeque. We strolled over to the kitchenand saw Aunty Leigh making salad, potato bake and crumbed chicken."Okay then, what are we going to play?" asked Bailey. "Well we can play hide and-" Olivia's sentence cut short again."DINNER'S UP!!" Yelled Uncle Grant. "Yay!" we yelled. We all grabbed different kinds of delicious food. My favourite was the potato bake. When we finished the yummiest dinner ever, we had to say goodbye to Ethan and his family. Then we went to get our pyjamas on. "It's time for bed" said Aunty Leigh."Do we have to?" moaned Emily."Yes, it's getting late and you have to be ready for another action-packed day" replied Aunty Leigh."Alright" said Emily. "Goodnight, Aunty Leigh" we all said.

"Ahh"my sister yawned as we all woke up."It's cold up here on this bed." I said to my cousins." Well then come down here, with us." answered my cousin Emily. So I climbed down from the top bunk down to the ground. Then we all walked over to my Aunty and Uncle's room to say good morning. Then they led us to the kitchen for breakfast."The options are cocoapops, toast, weet-bix or starve." said Uncle Grant. When I finished my cocoapops, we all quickly got changed into our togs, because we were going for a 3 minute walk to the beach. When it was time to go to the beach, we all grabbed our boogie-boards, out of the garage and ran down to the beach with my Uncle, Aunty, Mum, Dad and my cousins. When we got there the tide was 2 metres from the grass. We ran staight down to the water with our boogie-boards strapped around our wrists and waited for a wave to come. When a wave came we looked at the sand and lay on our boogie-boards until the wave went under us then. . .  SWOOSH!! The wave made me go onto the sand. So I ran back out into the water. When it was 11:30 we walked back home for lunch. For lunch we had sandwiches. In the sandwiches was ham, chicken, lettuce and cheese. With the sandwiches was chips and biscuits. After the most delicious lunch I have ever had we went to the estuary and saw the New Zealand dotteral. The water was absolutely crystal clear. then we walked up to the dairy and got an ice-cream. The ice-cream flavour that I got was maple shortcake. It was YUMM!!!!! When we got home it was nearly 5:00 pm. Uncle Grant said it was time to go to Clark Island. We were going to walk there at low tide. When we got to the beach we ran over to Clark Island. As soon as we got there we found a stick and wrote something on the sand. I wrote my name. While I was playing in the water, all of my cousins went with Tony for a bush walk. The tide was getting so my Mum took me back to the other side. We waited but the others were still not back. I was getting scared, but then. . . "Theres Emily. I can see her pink togs amongest the trees!" I yelled in suprise. "They better get here in time" My Mum said. 3 minutes later they got across. It was cold so we quickly got in the car. When we got home we changed into our pyjamas and went to have dinner. For dinner we had homemade pizza. When we finished dinner it was time for us to leave on our journey back to Pakuranga.

LG At Timezone.

During the holidays my Mum left for Australia.
My Dad, Brother and I were left in the pigsty for the next 4 days.
We finally thought we weren’t going to lounge around all day we were actually going to do something!
We decided to go to TIMEZONE.
Dad had lent his car to my Opa (my Grandfather is dutch) So we had to take my Mum’s Bomb!
Finally the groaning car came to A full Halt.
I was so excited that I Rushed over to the counter and I asked if I could buy some tokens.
He gave me Ten of them!
I dashed over to Slam-A-Winner but then I turned my head around and I saw all the people frantically spending there money on the games non-stop and soon after it was all over for them!
So I decided I was Going to spend my money slowly.
I inserted my first dollar into Slam-A-Winner and the game started.
Slam-A-Winner is where you have to try land balls into the holes, all the holes have numbers on them and whatever hole you land the ball in you win that amount of tickets.
I hit the red button and my first ball fell directly into the 100 hole!
I hit it again and it sadly fell into the 10 hole.
I hit it for the last time and to my surprise it landed straight into the Jackpot, the Jackpot value was 167!
Suddenly 277 tickets squirted out the ticket slot!
I was blown away, 277 tickets!
Next I went to Deal Or No Deal, it’s my favorite game.
My wish has always been to win the 200 ticket brief case which is the most you can win!
I put my 2 dollars in and the games started.
I picked my personal case and not long after I was sitting in front of the last 2 cases, 75 and 200!
I couldn’t believe that I was this close to getting that 200 in my case!
I thought to myself, “I have at least 75 but at the same time I desperately wanted that 200 so I couldn’t stand sitting in front of torture so I just opened my case and inside was 200 200 200 200 200!
I was so excited that I screamed!
My wish had been for filled!
This was my dream come true!
I had finally done it!
Then 200 tickets started to squirt out for miles non-stop.
After about a minute it finally stopped squirting out!
What a sight!
It was Outrageous.
The tickets went for about 13 1/2 meters!
After about 30 minutes of playing more games I went to the ticket machine.
I inserted my first roll of tickets.
At high speed it literally flung the tickets right out of my hands!
The counter was going up the highest I had ever seen!
100 200 250 600 800 900 999 1000!
Finally the counter came to a stop.
1174 tickets!
I had never got that many EVER in my life!
It was PHENOMENAL, CRAZY.
Then a little receipt popped out through a little slot.
It read You have won 1174 tickets.
I walked over to the counter and asked the lady there “Can I please receive my prizes now”?
She replied “Of course”.
She grabbed her key and walked with me over to the prize cabinet.
I chose A make yourself cardboard car, 2 stamps, a bowling pin money box, a polystyrene dinosaur model that can fly, a sticker album and 2 more bouncy balls.
I was completely spoiled!
“This had been an amazing day” I Thought as the doors of timezone flapped closed.

Our trip to Te Tuhi

The sun was gleaming so bright it was as glossy as the stars and the moon of the night sky, as we walked silently out of school.Room 28 were going to Te Tuhi art centre in Pakuranga . We were going to present our play and create a collage poster based on our maori legend, How Maui slowed the sun.We got there by walking. Before we went to Te Tuhi art centre we got into a group of 4. Then 1 person from each group got their bag and put their group’s water-bottles in it.After that we got our hats and put them on our heads and started marching quietly out of school. The hills made us exhausted.

When we got to Te Tuhi art centre we walked inside and met our art teacher, Jeremy. “Put your bags and hats in this white storage box please” Jeremy instructed us. He said to us to line up in front of an art gallery, to perform our play.We had so much fun. We had a discussion about our performance.Next we went into the art studio to create our collage poster. We all had a different job to do on our poster. I was doing the steaming hot sun.I had to use hot colors for that. When we had completed our posters we got up and showed our posters to everyone. We had a chat about our favourite bit about the poster.

After that we walked out of the art studio and back to white storage box. We grabbed our bags and said goodbye to Jeremy. Then we set off  on our journey again, back to school. I had so much fun at Te Tuhi art centre,it was an amazing learning experience.

Our visit with Paula Green

Paula Green is an author who writes poetry.  She lives in West Auckland at Bethells Beach where the sand is black and the waves are wild.  Paula lives with her husband, Michael, her 2 dogs (Nonu and Molly) and her 2 cats (Agile and Weetbix).  She also had 2 daughters, Estelle and Jorja.
Paula asked us what we knew about poems.
These are some responses from the children.

Paula then read some poems to us from her book called Flamingo Bendalingo: Poems from the Zoo.  She asked us to call out some words that "Sparked."  These are the words in the poem that  jumped out at us.
One of our favourite poems in this book is about the elephant.  There was not one "real" word in the poem.
Paula gave the Year 3 children the opportunity to write a poem.  Each child had to say a line about the the small puppet that they were given to hold.
The Year 6 children were then given the same opportunity.  They came up with an amazing poem.  Well done Y6 children.
Paula then read a couple of poems about her fat cat Charlie from her book Macaroni Moon.
Where the Mild things are.
Paula read a poem to us which was a whole lot of titles from books that were put in a blender and all mixed up.  These were some of the titles in her poem.

Wind the willows.
Lord of the Rings
Tell you a secret
George Marvelous medicine
Fantastic Mr. Fox
The hungry caterpillar
A series of unfortunate events
The lion in the meadows
Paula then read a very special picture book that was a story that she used to say to her girls when they went to bed.  This book is called Aunt Concertina and her Niece Evalina.
It was very interesting listening to Paula and we are looking forward to working with her this afternoon.
